Lighting Design for Live Events, Marine, & Themed Attractions.
Lighting Design for Live Events, Marine, & Themed Attractions.
We believe lighting design is a collaborative craft, rarely standing alone, and often integrating, supporting, and providing the 'wow'. It’s so much more than illumination. It's often the element that makes or breaks a space, or an experience.
The Foreign Office Lighting Design was founded in 2008 and we offer over 20 years of experience in the following areas:
Designs for live events, corporate events, exhibitions, live music, experiential marketing, and fashion.
Designing lighting for theme parks, themed attractions, museums, and architainment environments.
Lighting schemes, lighting support, system design and consultancy for superyachts. Live onboard temporary installations.
We value creativity, collaboration, technology and technique. We believe these four elements help us to deliver better outcomes.
Lighting fixtures, lazers, video screens and video content are all used in our designs as a means of lighting a space.
Our process immediately begins in a 3D environment that stays with us from concept through to delivery. Using tool such as Cinema 4D, Vectorworks and the Adobe suite of products we take our projects through this pipeline, continually exploring, developing and refining our ideas. This process allows us to sketch, present, engage and deliver our designs at each step of the project.
We begin our projects in the conceptual phase. Listening closely to the brief and collaborating with you to refine the ideas and create initial imagery, mood boards, sketches, simple renders. This vital phase of work is led creatively with a strong technical understanding. We take this collaborated vision and the data we have created in 3D and move into the planning phase.
The concepts are worked into technical drawings, plans, elevations and detailed schematics. We take great pride in producing clear and well defined documentation that includes cost breakdowns and scheduling.
Pre-programming of complex lighting systems is carried out in our WYSIWYG environment. Virtual reality has become a tool we are delving into, to help us, as creators, to experience space and light. All of our rendered imagery is produced not only to show intent, but also to excite.
Project management, onsite focussing, plotting, programming and operation. Each of these is vital in delivering an exceptional experience. Our expertise and experience in these elements ensures deliverables are met.

Lighting is rarely static. Programming unlocks and enhances any lighting design. Whether the end users are lighting professionals or venue staff, our complex programming can be made accessible and useable.
Complex system design for installation. Producing detailed schematics and costs analysis, including cost of ownership and maintenance costs.
Detailed, clear and concise plans, elevations and sections to clearly document the design.
Making use of current technologies to fully explore the spaces in the comfort of the studio, saves time and money onsite.
Using 3D models to create accurate or conceptual images of our designs. These help collaborators to see the schemes ahead of installation. They allow for vital feedback ahead of delivery.
The newest tool we have. We use VR to fully immerse ourselves in our projects and explore light in an entirely new way. Experience an example here.
Using video technology as a light content creation to radically transform the space and experience.
